Watersports

8029 Discover Scuba (Tues 25 Mar) 9.30am-1.00pm £30

The perfect, safe introduction to the wonderful world of the deep for anyone from age 8 upwards! Taking place in Uppingham School’s own indoor swimming pool, this short course will teach you the basics of scuba, learning about the sport and its equipment, as well as watching a demonstration before putting on the equipment and having a go yourself under expert guidance. The ideal introduction to get a feel for the sport before deciding whether to do an open water scuba course during your holidays. Our tutors are provided by Midlands DiverTraining.
Note – we may be offering the PADI Open Water course in August (date tbc) – contact the office for further details.

All the following watersports courses take place at the Watersports Centre at Rutland Water using qualified Anglian Water tutors/coaches.

Sailing

Sailing

8030 Have a Go Sailing (Sat 12 July) 9.30am-12.30pm £45

A three-hour hands-on introduction to the basic concepts of sailing with a competent instructor. A great introduction to sailing.

8031 Start Sailing (Mon 21 –Tues 22 July) 9.30 – 3.30 (includes lunch) £150

This Level 1 course requires no previous experience. Students will gain a comprehensive introduction to sailing, including boat handling and essential background knowledge.

8032 Sailing (Level 2) (Mon 21 – Fri 25 July) 9.30 – 3.30 (includes lunch) £290

From complete novice to RYA level 2 certificate in a week. The equivalent of passing your driving test. Internationally recognised, this is the minimum qualification required to hire a boat.

Kayaking

8033 Have a Go Kayaking (Sat 26 July) 9.30am – 11.30am £30

A two-hour hands-on introduction to the basic concepts of kayaking with a competent instructor.

8034 One Star Kayaking (Sat 9 Aug) 9.30am – 2.30pm £90

A real action-packed day giving you an introduction to two different activities and taking you through to BCU One Star standard. Learn how to paddle and turn the two different kinds of craft. Throughout the day you will also be introduced to water safety issues.

Powerboating

8035 Powerboating (Sat 12 – Sun 13 July) 9.30 – 3.30 (includes lunch) £180.00

This two-day course will enable a complete novice to learn all aspects required to drive a powerboat on their own. The course aims to teach boat handling and seamanship skills such as stopping the boat under control and man overboard procedures. The powerboat equivalent to passing your driving test and is required for any power-boating abroad.

A three-hour hands-on introduction for the complete novice. You will learn the basics of rigging, getting started and turning around with an insight into the safety issues involved.

8039 Windsurfing (Level 1) (Sat 26 – Sun 27 July) 9.30am-1.30pm £110

A dynamic, comprehensive 8-hour introductory course run in two, four-hour mornings aimed at complete beginners. Without any previous experience, anyone of average fitness should be able to sail to where they want to go, in a light wind, by the end of the course. This is the minimum qualification required to be able to hire a board.
