This is always a very popular course, and we often have to turn people away – so book early for a fun week of hands on machine knitting! You will cover a variety of skills during the week.
On Monday and Tuesday you will follow through the making of a small garment including hems, shaping with tools and holding position, neckbands, making up etc. The skills that each knitter can include in this project depend on their needs and ability – basics, intarsia, cables etc.
On Wednesday and Thursday ribber work will be the main feature.Topics will include setting up the ribber, knitting basic ribs, buttonholes, shaping on the ribber, knitting a variety of ribbed fabrics, including jacquard. Beginners and those wishing to can continue with the project fromTuesday if they choose.
Friday will be a Lace day. Every machine can produce a variety of lace fabrics, and we will cover as many variations of machine knitted lace as possible.
Brother punchcard machines are available, or if you prefer you can bring your own machine. With UppinghamYarns, one of the biggest outlets for coned yarns in the UK, nearby this is a good time to purchase your yarn. Materials will be available (£10-£12) or you may bring your own. It is also an opportunity to bring along/try out accessories and take your skills further.

You should bring a piece of furniture to upholster and we’ll guide you through each stage of the process. As you learn, you will also enjoy the pleasure of seeing an old piece of furniture come back to life in its former, or renewed glory – or be adapted to blend with your home’s new colour schemes. Materials can be bought from the tutor with whom you will probably have contact before Day 1. This year, due to popular demand we are running our Easter Course over two weeks, to give you chance to complete your project. We will also be running a weeks’ course in the summer. You can choose whether you want to do mornings or full days.
