Total Music Powerhouse (TMP), launched last year, was an instant success – just what those aspiring to making an impact in modern music were looking for. It lived up to its billing as a ‘unique holiday experience giving young people expert tuition and guidance in all aspects of modern music’.
What doesTotal Music Powerhouse offer?
Based in Uppingham School’s spectacular New Music Centre, and using its state-of-the-art MusicTechnology and Studio facilities,TMP offers dynamic and creatively stimulating programmes for the 21st Century creative student. CourseTutors will include top industry professionals, active in their respective fields. All students will have the chance to down-load a recorded souvenir ofTMP shortly after their return home.
Who can attend?
The course is aimed at students interested in any aspect of modern music. Each will select their options from music industry careers, marketing yourself, communication with record companies; stage-craft and performance skills for individuals and groups etc as well as sessions relating to specific aspects of the music industry.

Course includes:1.The Performing/Recording Artist
For Instrumentalists/singer-songwriters/vocal artists and rock/pop bands, who wish to write and record their own music and improve their all-round technical facility and musicianship. Sessions, which will be undertaken in small groups include:-
*Song writing and Instrumental development;
*
All round
musicianship;
*
Studio techniques and recording;
*
Hooks, riffs and licks (constructing instrumental
lines)

2. Studio Production
For aspiring music producers who wish to gain the skills required to produce recording artists and bands across a wide range of genres. Sessions, undertaken in professional studio environments with leading rock and pop music industry professionals, will include:
* Arranging, remixing and song-writing;

Recording,
using the latest industry standard software including pro tools and logic;
*
music
sequencing and cutting edge production techniques;
*
Aural skills;
* Instrumental studies (knowledge
of different instruments and keyboard skills)
*
Microphone techniques
*
Studio engineering

3.MCing,Djing, Remixing and Sequencing
Learn advanced techniques, creative tools and professional tricks of the trade. Sessions include:
* Aural skills and tTechnical skills, using the
latest industry standard equipment;

Experimentation, imitation and style;
*
Harmony and contextual
studies;
*
Performance skills and projection;
*
Writing original material
4.Composing for Film,Television and Media
For aspiring film music composers, who wish to learn the techniques involved, using the latest technological equipment. Skills focussed on will include:
* Writing to film and interpretation
of visual material;

Composition and arranging;
*
Orchestration and harmony;
*
Studio
software, sampling and processing techniques;
*
Instrumental studies;
*
Managing/conducting a recording session;
*
Creating your own movies and scoring them
5. Song-writing
Industry professionals will help aspiring songwriters hone their skills, with:-
* Song and lyric writing and co-writing;

Arranging, instrumentation
and orchestration;
Leisure Time
The musical side of the week is intensive so we also include a varied programme of leisure activities such as sports, barbecue, films etc.
Day Student or Residential?
Most students generally prefer to stay residentially as we also offer an exciting and varied programme of evening activities. However, if students live close enough to travel each day, they can do so. Further details about staying at Uppingham School are on page 28. Non-residential students are asked to bring a packed lunch although drinks will be provided.

Concert
The course will end with a spectacular live concert, featuring all course participants, and recorded for their future enjoyment.
