Day 1- Cool Chemistry

Combustion experiments – find out what is produced when things burn. Get togged up in gloves and goggles and get set for some fun. See what happens when you set fire to copper and magnesium and iron filings. Which ones spark, which ones change colour and which one gives you a big surprise! Stand back and be amazed with some science lab fireworks. Make a potassium permanganate volcano erupt, a jelly baby scream and some paper disappear into thin air. Send some balloon tea bags soaring into the sky like mini hot air balloons. Then use your newfound knowledge about heating to make some toffee. Then, of course, we eat it!

Day 2 - Colour Crazy

Make some cool crystals, learn about saturated solutions and start growing your own crystals. Make indicators out of red cabbage and see how you can use it to detect acids. Make your very own gold and silver coins, from… well that would be telling. Using your newfound knowledge, be a detective and solve the mystery of who planned the robbery. All you have is a scrap of the map, written in ink and pens from a couple of suspects. Can you work out who did it?

Day 3 - Light Fantastic

Smoke machine and lasers, mirrors and kaleidoscopes, periscopes and rainbows. Pin hole camera. Make them, see them. Light up your life! Make your own mini battery with coins, foil and vinegar.

Day 4 - All Change

Investigating how materials change. Make spoons scream, clouds fall, bubbles float and balloons explode with amazing dry ice. Superfreeze fruit juice into ice cubes and turn grapes into marbles. Go outside and fire up some dry ice rockets and get ready for some very big bangs! Make gak. Is it solid or liquid? Not sure, but its great fun to play with…
