Adults and children; musicians, artists, dramatists and scientists; whether you live locally or wish to stay with us – everyone is welcome at Uppingham Summer School. ‘Fun and learning’ go hand in hand in all our courses. NEW for 2008 is our exciting new ‘That’s no Yolk’ course for would-be or novice chicken keepers. If Jamie Oliver and Hugh Fearnley- Whittingstall’s campaign for free-range chickens has made you think about keeping your own chickens in your back garden, come and learn which breeds you should consider, how to look after them and how to give them a happy and enjoyable life – and satisfy your family’s egg requirements. NEW for 2008 is our one-day introduction to Scuba diving; our courses on make-up and manicure; a canvas work course to help you make a stunning evening bag to go with your favourite outfit – and lots of new music, modern technology and science stuff for children and young people too! There’s something for everyone aged six months upwards! Start something new, or improve an existing skill. Courses aimed predominantly at adults are on pages with orange tops – but older, sensible teenagers are more than welcome to attend too! Courses for children are on the pages with green tops – with the recommended age group marked for each course. If you’re local, you’ll no doubt travel to Uppingham daily – if you live further afield you may wish to make your studies into a holiday by staying at Uppingham School, this delightfully unspoilt gem in the centre of rural England.
